If you are interested in speaking at an SES Conference, you're in the right place. Below are some timelines, hints and tips to make your submission stand out. After you have read the guidelines below, please submit a proposal via our submission form.
Where it All Begins
The preliminary agenda is generally posted about 4 months before the event and is constantly being updated in real-time. Check out the agenda overview and see if you are interested in:
- Submitting for an existing session
- Submitting for an existing session and giving it a fresh take
- Submitting an entirely new session idea
(Agenda space is very limited so if you wish to submit a new session, it is especially important that you submit early!)
After you've made that decision, it's time to start planning your submission. Below you'll find the inside scoop on how to boost your chances of being selected.
We begin reviewing submissions and notifying speakers during the months leading up to an event, so no matter which of the above you are interested in, don't wait until the last minute to submit.
What We're Looking For
At SES, we are always looking to be at the forefront of the industry with the highest quality content. We review hundreds of submissions for each show, so here are some hints and tips to help your submission(s) stand out:
Tactics & TakeawaysKeep in mind that our attendees are looking for tangible takeaways that they can implement when returning to the office.
Focus on the "How To's", not the "Why's"We are looking for speakers to spend their time on the stage explaining how to make the most out of whichever topic they are speaking on, rather than spending their time telling attendees why that topic is important.
High-level StrategiesIt is important to hear key strategic thinking from thought leaders in the industry, so this can form great content for our agendas.
Fresh and Innovative PerspectivesWe are always keen to present fresh and unique content at SES. Please don't submit the same presentations that have been done several other times at other digital marketing events.
Case StudiesOur attendees love to hear how other businesses have approached a key challenge. Any case studies or examples that you can present will always go down well at SES and be looked at favorably in the speaker selection process.
Pitfalls to AvoidOur attendees also love learning about what not to do, or how other organizations learned from their mistakes.
Hot Topics and New Takes on an Existing TopicAs you all know, this industry is constantly changing and evolving, so we want to ensure that the SES agenda features the hottest topics. Submitting new topic ideas or a new take on an existing topic is always a winner.
Videos of Previous Speaking GigsThere is nothing better than being able to see you as a speaker in action at another event! If you are able to provide a video link in your submission this always goes down very well with the content team.
Don't Pitch Products or ServicesThis is probably the most important point about participating as a speaker. Attendees come to SES to hear unbiased presentations and we do not tolerate pitches for any kind of product or service. Please keep your abstract and presentation focused purely on education. Being a speaker at SES and showcasing your thought leadership on the subject you are presenting is truly the best advertisement for your business.
Bio and Abstract FormatsWhen filling out the submission form, please write your bio and abstract in the 3rd person as it would be listed on our website. Remember, even if you are making a proposal for an existing session that already has an abstract, you MUST provide an abstract with your submission detailing what content you would bring to that session. Our preferred format for abstracts is a few lines followed by a few bullet points listing the takeaways and what attendees will learn from the session.
Multiple SubmissionsYou may submit multiple proposals, however, please keep in mind that we do limit the amount of speakers from any one company at each event.
Submitting for Multiple ShowsPlease be aware that if you are submitting to speak at more than one event, you MUST complete a separate submission form for each event, even if you are submitting for the same session.
What to Expect if Selected
Presentation FormatMost of our sessions are either 2-person panel presentations or solo sessions. The 2-person panels allow each speaker 25 minutes to present, followed by a joint 10 minutes of Q&A run by the moderator. There are some sessions that will be discussion panels and these may feature 3 or 4 panelists in one session.
Complimentary Speaker PassAs a speaker you receive a complimentary pass to the event, giving you access to sessions, keynotes and the exhibit hall every day of the conference.
Discounted Passes for Colleagues, Clients and FriendsAs a speaker you have a number of discounted passes available to you to invite colleagues and friends to the event.
Potential Opportunities to Write for ClickZ or Search Engine WatchOur sister publications ClickZ and SEW feature many articles on SES in the months leading up to an event. There are many opportunities for speakers to get involved in interviews and articles in all these publications.
